Parents when it comes to your kids there are so many things that keep your mind racing. Maybe even causing a little stress, worry or anxiety in your life. We all naturally want what’s best for our kids. Heck I personally don’t have any kids but for the past decade have felt a bond and connection with the tens of thousands of athletes I have worked with. Always looking out for them and their best interest.
But as parents you have a few other things to consider with your kids especially when they are involved in sports…
As we have talked about at length before, kids today are under more stress and pressure than generations before. This can only add stress to your own life…
Keeping you awake at night thinking:
- Are they being bullied
- Child not being peer pressured
- Are they going to pass school
- Can I afford college
- Am I giving them the life they deserve
And the list goes on because nothing fills your heart more than seeing your child happy, healthy and successful…
I Do Not Have Those Worries
I have been speaking to parents, families and athletes around the country for the past 4 years and there is always a theme…
“That’s not my child”
And I wish many of these trends kids are facing were completely irrelevant, but the reality is there is a high percentage it is your child…
Let’s take a look at bullying. In a recent study bullying has hurt nearly one in four students within the past year BUT…
Here is the kicker, 64% of kids who were bullied say they never report it or tell anyone. Meaning that number is MUCH greater. Then if we toss in the explosion of social media bullying has become an even greater problem.
Now you do not even have to bully kids face to face you can just send them messages onlie. Making it much easier and most likely more frequent than we can imagine or even report.
Sadly, the only time these issues get reported are when it reaches a tipping point and kids are taking their lives because of bullying and cyber-bullying.
Then comes more push back when I speak with parents…
“My child would never take their life”
Let’s quickly break the number down in the two states I have mentored the greatest number of athletes…
Texas: Suicide 2nd leading cause of death between ages 15-34
Alabama: Suicide 2nd leading cause of death for children 10-14 and 3rd for children 15-24
The above research is why I am EXTREMELY passionate about empowering and mentoring so many young adults across the country. I know they are wanting to reach out desperately but not sure which door to open first!
The Next Couple
Next, other areas keeping you up at night is the rising cost of college! This issue has completely gotten out of hand…
I do not want to get too deep on this topic because I can write an entire article on whether it’s really worth it or not…
But I do believe that more parents are beginning to wonder and calculate if they were to have to pay full tuition plus living expenses. Is it worth it for my child…
Again another stressor!
Peer pressure: Who is influencing my child? We all know how important your environment is especially at a young age…
Then you toss in athletics and being part of a team young athletes will do or say just about anything to fit in…
Remember kids today would rather “fit-in” than “stand-out”
This is spilling over into drug use among young kids…
56% of kids between the ages of 12 and 14 experiment with drugs!

Why I Really Wrote This Article
Parents let’s be real…
You DO NOT buy a “sports training/performance service”
You ARE paying for a TRANSFORMATION! You want to see and expect meaningful value and change…
So let’s tie this into all the research and statistics I just threw at you above.
First, we begin with this is another reason why Underground Performance is different than EVERYONE ELSE! Other coaches or gyms might use the word “transformation” but they only talk about transforming their abs, bench press, squat or speed…
Transformation Underground Performance Provides:
Confidence: One of greatest gifts you can give any athlete is a Supreme Confidence in themselves. When they discover they are powerful, valuable and worthy they are those individuals who immediately remove the previous ceiling they put on themselves. Yes, this will improve their performance on the field, court or mat…
But remember all those scary trends like bullying and peer pressure we discussed above?
When kids and athletes learn to TRULY love themselves that’s the beginning of supreme confidence…
The ability to stand up for themselves. That could mean just telling a coach or adult about what’s happening to them. It gives them the power to turn away from an environment they know is not supporting their personal dreams and goals.
Belief System: Life is about being able to make decisions for yourself! While kids today are more insecure than ever before it’s critical to think for themselves…
Remember kids would rather “fit-in” than “stand-out”?
This includes small things like the ability to wear the type of clothes they want to wear rather than whatever the latest trend is. In addition this includes their athletic goals and decisions as well.
There is an extreme amount of external noise in their lives. Should they choose a “big name” school because they are embarrassed about going to a smaller school. Do they limit their goals and dreams because of the influences around them?
Athletes and young adults are living in fear. Fear of living up to everyone else’s standards including society, friends and family! This is transformed through their personal belief system.
Accountability: Learning to do things on their own. Another term for this is their personal responsibility and the fear of speaking up. Worried about asking questions so they do not look “dumb” in front of their peers…
When talking with young athletes that are not getting playing time they feel they deserve and ask them why, they have no response…
Well the first step is go ask your coach. Put them on the spot and figure out what EXACTLY you need to do to accomplish getting more playing time.
The same goes for academics. Why do you have C’s and D’s in the classroom? “Well my teacher doesn’t like me”…
No go talk to them and figure out what you need to do to get A’s and B’s in the classroom. That’s their job to tell you!!
It’s not your parents job to figure out what you as the athlete needs to do to get recruited, improve your grades or get more playing time. It’s transforming their personal responsibility.
Mental Toughness: Expanding their comfort zone. It took me decades to learn that we subconsciously put ceilings and limiting beliefs on ourselves…
Oftentimes we reach a certain level of success and think we reached the pinnacle of our lives. We have failed to realize there is so much more out there to accomplish. Actually the reality is there are ZERO LIMITS!
Yet, we are told to “be realistic” with our goals.
Why? Life is not designed for us to live in a box but that is how we are taught to think…
Rather it’s time we are taught to think outside the box. The unknown! That’s where all the magic happens!
Then you accomplish some WILD GOAL and guess what there is still more! Transforming the comfort zone!
Your Kids Are Wonderful
Just like your kids deserve the most magical and exhilarating life the same goes for you as parents!
You were not designed to lay in bed at night and wonder, stress or worry about the physical and mental health of your children. I could literally list off dozens of transformations that Underground Performance provides for your child…
But I think you are starting to understand the difference between what we do compared to everyone else!
The transformation involves both the parents and kids…
I bet NO ONE has ever told you that when you took your child to a sports training and performance facility…
Why? Because they do not truly understand the ultimate value and meaningful change they “could” provide for you and your child.
We are different:
